Cares Corner: Wagoner Community Hospital Receives RCORP Grant to Investigate Substance Use and Prevention | New

Of the nearly 200 responses received for children under the age of 18, 80% responded that they wanted more prevention information to be available in Wagoner County, Salichs said. Almost 60% of those surveyed said they got information about substance use and prevention from Google, YouTube and movies; and 33% said their information came from social media.

“We know it’s not healthy when people get their information online,” Salichs said. “We want it to be easily accessible to as many people as possible.

On the adult side, Salichs said respondents voted for drug addiction to be the number one condition affecting Wagoner County, followed by poverty and unemployment.

All survey responses are confidential.

With the help of the $ 200,000 grant, Salichs said Wagoner Community Hospital would like to focus on three goals over the next few months:

– Increase awareness of the safe prescribing and management of prescription drugs among health care providers and consumers and reduce widespread stigma in the community surrounding drug treatment.

– Expand capacity to access treatment by improving telehealth, addressing both access and technology issues, as well as building on mobile drug-assisted treatment (MAT) approaches.
