Gunman arrested near Jeffersontown High amid lockdown

A gunman was arrested near Jeffersontown High School Thursday afternoon as the school was closed in response to another person “illegally accessing” the building, according to court records.

Donald Dorsey, a 25-year-old Louisville man, has been arrested by Jeffersontown Police for illegal possession of a weapon on school property and alcohol poisoning in a public place, court records show. He was to be arrested on Friday morning.

Dorsey was arrested near the school football field, according to his arrest citation, where students who had been evacuated from the school were being held. He was heading towards police guarding the grounds with a handgun “in his possession”, according to the quote.

He “had trouble speaking and smelled like an alcoholic drink”, according to the quote, and “admitted to drinking.”

Dorsey did not have a lawyer listed in court records Thursday night.

Jeffersontown High was on lockdown Thursday afternoon as officers searched for a person who was “gaining access” to the building, police said.

Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Beth Ruoff said Jeffersontown Police detained a minor after detaining him near the school campus. The minor is a former student, and police have not confirmed reports that the minor was armed, according to Ruoff, who added that the charges against the person were yet to be determined.

A Jeffersontown Police dispatcher, when contacted for comment Thursday evening, told a Courier Journal reporter to call back in the morning to speak to someone.
