Martin Preston, founder and chief executive of private Delamere Rehab Clinic, said just because you’re within the unit limit doesn’t mean you’ve developed alcoholism.

It is recommended that you drink no more than 14 units of alcohol per week – one unit differs depending on the strength of alcohol you drink.

For example, a 750ml bottle of red, white or rosé wine (13.5% ABV) contains 10 units.

Martin explained, “Alcoholism is not defined by how much you drink, what you drink, or when you drink it. but rather your relationship with her.

If drinking alcohol is starting to affect your work and personal life, this could be a warning sign.

“If you become addicted to having one drink every night to get you through your workday or if you find it hard to cut down despite the negative consequences it can have, it could be a sign of alcoholism even though you do not drink daily or in large quantities.”

The guru added that if you think you or a loved one has entered into an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, there are some things you can watch out for.

Alcohol dependence is often characterized by an urge to drink.

This, Martin said, means that even when a person wants to stop drinking, they are unable to do so.

He explained: “While a person who drinks a glass of wine every night doesn’t necessarily have a problem, when the urge to drink becomes all they can think about to the point that they can’t stop it , this may be a sign that she is struggling with alcoholism.

For some people, having a drink at the end of the day can be a way to unwind and relax.

But for those with alcohol problems, Martin said a single drink can be a slippery slope to a binge session when cravings take over a person’s senses.

“Craving is often a phenomenon associated with addiction and can manifest itself physically or psychologically.

“For example, a person may not be physically dependent on alcohol, but may still experience psychological cravings,” he said.

A lot of people can stop at one drink, but Martin said that as your habit increases, so does your tolerance, which means you might not feel the same sensation from a drink as you do. ‘before.

“Those who have become addicted to this glass of wine may begin to drink gradually more or switch to stronger types of alcohol.

“This is because the more a person drinks, a tolerance begins to form, which means they have to switch to more or stronger types of alcohol to experience the same effects.”

A person who drinks every day can also begin to become addicted to this drink, with the habit changing from a want to a need.

Over time, Martin said they might start experiencing withdrawal symptoms on days when they don’t have access to alcohol.

“Symptoms can sometimes be life-threatening and can range from shaky hands, insomnia and anxiety to more serious issues including drinking bouts and hallucinations,” he added.

It is important to note that if you have developed an addiction to alcohol, you may find it difficult to stop drinking.

This, Martin said, might be independent of any negative consequences alcohol might have.

“The victim may even be close to death or lose close relationships because of their drinking, but will be forced to continue despite what has already happened or what may happen in the future,” Martin added. .
