Interview with Frazier Tharpe of Hype GQStanfield opened up about how difficult it was for him and the rest of the world to function properly at work during the 2020 global pandemic. He says being candid about the battle to stay sober was difficult but also necessary, recounting QG, “It’s something I’ve never really talked about before, but I think it’s something I need to talk about, because I want people to understand that it’s something you can go through, that’s something you can get past.” He added, “And I want people to feel empowered that the person they’re looking at on this screen went through addiction and survived it.”

“Around the same time, he realized something was wrong while getting a massage. “All of a sudden I got so anxious that I got up, canceled the massage and said [the masseuse] to leave. And she was probably like, what’s going on? And I didn’t really know what was going on either,” he recalls. “I was just thinking, I’m anxious, just let me drink some wine. As soon as I drink the wine, the anxiety goes away.

Then he thought it was just anxiety – the stress of making a movie coupled with that of living through a pandemic. Over time, however, Stanfield came to believe that he was experiencing what he calls “the onset of alcohol withdrawal.” I had become completely dependent on it. To the point where I was no longer able to move or function a whole day without it.

Surprisingly, it was Stanfield’s peers in Hollywood who provided the support and encouragement needed to overcome his struggles, crediting music heiress Paris Jackson and her Knives out co-star Jamie Lee Curtis in particular. The latter comedian reached out last year after going public with his sobriety struggles on Instagram, telling him, “My experience is that when you’re feeling lonely, it’s a very scary feeling.” Curtis also added: “You are not alone. And if I can be a source of comfort or understanding, then I hope you will allow me to do so. Since then they have been sober friends.

We commend LaKeith Stanfield for not only being open about his own issues, but also for giving a ray of hope to those who may not be so strong-willed. Watch the trailer for The more they fall below:
