Many helped with heart surgery, rehabilitation (letter) | Letters to the Editor

Six months ago, I had open heart surgery.

The first group I am grateful for is Dr Robert Wenger and his team for successfully completing triple bypass surgery. The next group I would like to thank are the nurses and staff in the Intensive Care Unit and 5 East at Lancaster General Hospital. For a week, these people used their professional skills to meet all of my needs.

A month after the surgery, I started 12 weeks of 36 rehabilitation sessions at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Cardiac Rehabilitation Center. The nurses and therapists there guided me and encouraged me to become stronger and healthier. They are also real professionals. They wanted me to promise to continue my recovery using the same equipment in Brethren Village, where I reside.

Then I want to thank my family and all my friends for their prayers and words of encouragement. But I am very grateful to my wonderful wife, Friedlinde, for the love and concern she has shown me over the past 55 years.

Lancaster County is blessed with excellent medical facilities for which we should all be grateful. Take the time today and every day to thank someone who has helped you.

God bless you all.
