Monday August 9

9:00 a.m. – The United Network for Organ Sharing, a nonprofit that manages the U.S. organ transplant system, will ask the 11th U.S. Court of Appeals to overturn a court order district that internal emails should be unsealed. The order came in a lawsuit by liver transplant centers and patients challenging a 2019 federal policy prioritizing liver transplants to patients with the most urgent medical needs living within a 500-mile radius. from the donor’s hospital, and replaced an older system based on defined geographic regions. UNOS maintains that the plaintiffs seek to use the emails for a public campaign against the organization.

10:00 a.m. – U.S. bankruptcy judge Robert Drain will hold a hearing on the approval of the bankruptcy reorganization plan of OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma LP. The company and its owners in the Sackler family have proposed a $ 10 billion settlement to resolve more than 3,000 lawsuits accusing them of fueling the national opioid epidemic. Purdue’s creditors voted strongly in favor of the plan. Its approval is necessary for the agreement to enter into force.
